An employment defense litigator with Bingham McCutchen LLP has joined Dickstein Shapiro LLP’s Los Angeles office, the firm announced Monday.
Arthur F. Silbergeld will head the firm’s West Coast labor and employment practice. He specializes in representing employers in all aspects of labor and employment, including health matters, drug testing, workforce reductions and leaves of absence; mergers and acquisitions; Sarbanes-Oxley Act cases; and trade secrets issues.
He insisted there is no bad blood between him and his former firm, where he had been for two years. He said he made the move for greater practice growth opportunity.
“We are very pleased we were able to attract Art Silbergeld to the firm. He is an outstanding attorney with a great reputation and will contribute substantially to our national employment practice,” said James Turken, managing partner of Dickstein Shapiro’s California offices.
“We are delighted to have him,” said Deborah P. Kelly, Dickstein Shapiro’s deputy general counsel and employment practice leader. According to Kelly, the move is part of an effort to expand the firm’s employment practice group on the West Coast, and she said she expects more hires soon.
Dickstein Shapiro has more than 350 attorneys in six offices, three of which are in California, in Los Angeles, Orange County, Silicon Valley, New York, Stamford, Conn.
and Washington, D.C.
“I’m really delighted to be here,” said Silbergeld. “It’s a very energetic firm that is in a growth mode on the West Coast.
Silbergeld added, “My arrival has put Dickstein Shapiro in a position to better service clients in counseling and litigation anywhere in the U.S.
Eric Miller, firm spokesman for Bingham McCutchen, said, “We wish Art the best at his new firm.”Prior to joining Bingham McCutchen, Silbergeld worked at Proskauer Rose LLP. He left the latter to avoid a mandatory firm retirement policy. “I have many years left. I can’t imagine doing anything else.
Sandy Lechtick of Esquire Search Consultants Inc. brokered Silbergeld’s move.
Sixth-year associate Jennifer Awrey is expected to join Dickstein Shapiro sometime this month. She will also move from Bingham McCutchen.
