Amar L. Thakur, who joined from Foley & Lardner LLP, will head the firm’s IP litigation practice in L.A., overseeing 93 lawyers. A law firm with more than 600 attorneys worldwide, Quinn currently has more than 200 attorneys in IP litigation,the firm’s largest practice area. Sandford “Sandy” Lechtick,founder of California‐based legal search firm Esquire Inc., brokered Thakur’s move to the new firm. “Sandy asked me if I was interested in moving and where I would want to go,” Thakur said. “And I think Quinn was No. 1 on my list. They handle the biggest, the best and the most important cases nationally, and it’s an exciting opportunity for me to be part of that larger team. Thakur’s practice is devoted to IP litigation and licensing matters. His experience includes litigating on behalf of companies in telecommunications, medical devices, software and semiconductors in patent, trademark and commercial disputes. “IP litigation tends to hit industries in waves,” Thakur said. “Recently, there has been a significant amount of patent litigation, particularly in wireless devices, and an uptick in big, what I like to call institutional cases, like Apple and Samsung. Thakur will bring clients from his former firm with him to Quinn but said he was unable to say who that includes until the move is finalized.
